In an earlier post I wrote about the way many TV dish installers leave vulnerable spots on the roof. That is a real problem in this wet climate. The post was called So Likely To Leak. These do-it-yourselfers and so-called pros sink fasteners through the surface of the roof and, in so doing, there is an increased potential of leaks. Someone asked, at my previous post, if real installers are guilty of this or just homeowners. Based on what I see, many of the installers are inept -- a bunch of sub-contracted out part-time kids and they cause many of the problems. Another favorite method, that is highly related to the above topic, is the practice of running the wires from the dish through the gutter. Gee, here is a nice trough to stick our wires in. They do not realize that, in so doing, they have blocked the gutter and all sorts of icky debris will collect at the wire. Drainage zero! I know that this creative routing of the wires was the work of a highly trained "professional" dish installer. Thanks for stopping by, Steven L. Smith

Cutting corners and the homeowner does not even realize it. .
After reading your blog I realize the importance of good workmanship and dependable workmen when having a dish installed. Thanks for the good information.
Betty
There are many ways for builders to mess up the house. Then add the workmen who come in later to make changes....there is a real rub.
I sentence this guy (or gal) to washing "dishes" for a year.
I have also seen downspouts used and plumbing vents! Any other things I could say would just send things straight to the gutter.
The dreaded dish on the roof. That is one of my biggest pet peeves from a roof stand point. Usually they are just lag screwed and no sealant of any kind. Not that this would matter, just prolongs the inevitable, but you know what I mean.
Steve - Yeah, last I knew electrical wires and water don't mix. Helloooo? What were they thinking?
I wonder how many dish installers would come out and fix their problems. So many homeowners don't even look at their gutters.
But, But, Steven! You are sadly mistaken. This is a wiring trough that is only disguised as a gutter silly boy...
Helping you live your American dream...
Theodora, in my area, they will come out. They will charge you the trip charge, and then the hourly rate to get it reran somewhere else. What a crock, I really don't like dish installers.
I think laws are needed to protect us from squirrelly installers.
I think that the term professional dish installer is an oxymoron.
