It is common to find significant water damage near the tub or the shower. This is often the result of water that is leaking out around a shower door or a curtain. Or, in some cases, the shower door, often a slider, is installed in such a manner that the shower water runs down the track and right into the wall. That can make for a huge mess. Sometimes, for an inspector to locate moisture issues, a moisture meter is required. There are other times (below) when a meter is hardly necessary. Thanks for stopping by, Steven L. Smith

It is interesting how folks have such a blind eye towards these things...

No meter? Then how do you test it? Lick it?
Nice picture. I would use my moisture meter to determine if the leakage is still active. Although, the existing vinyl splash guard does appear to at least warrant caulking.
Glen,
This was one where you could leave the meter in the car, it was wet and obvious. The repair job here was going to take more than caulking.
You don't need a moisture meter to see that the wall has water damage.
What you need some demolition tools to start ripping the wall covering off to see how bad it is behind it.
(....Well, OK we can leave that up to the contractor) :)
