When a home has a crawl space with vents, often we will find that those vents are blocked by earth, leaves or organic matter. They are at grade and, in many instances, the homeowner needs to put in wells at the vents. These can be pre-purchased in plastic or metal. Sometimes people make them of pressure-treated lumber. The wells are of little use when, over the years, the homeonwer than allows the wells to become full of debris which turns to soil and, once again, the vent is blocked and below grade. This information applies equally to wells at basement windows. Thanks for stopping by, Steven L. Smith

Steven, Don't you know that those vent holes are where spiders hang out. It is no wonder I can't get my wife to clean them out!
Steve, are you venting again after a hard week of teaching?
Steven - I think there's a reason they call them wells. While they cannot be avoided in a few cases, it's best to sufficiently slope the soil so vent wells can be avoided.
Steve, Looks to be one of those green filters to insulate your house in the winter to keep your pipes from freezing. That's what my neighbor told me last summer. I can find better ways to compost =)
Are you having a great Tuesday yet?
Paul
And the crawl fills up with that wet stuff, what's it called again?
Yuk! I wonder who is living in there. Thanks for the tip about that they make vent covers. This is nice reminder for us especially for those who live with those types of vents.
Well, well. Looks like a bad case of ventus clogitis...
