King of the House Home Inspection (Bellingham) Jumping into Cyber Space

I have been monkeying around the past few weeks with a video about home inspection and my firm. Having worked in broadcasting for years I viewed this less as a video and more as a voice-over with applicable photos. This has not been done without a few hassles but, generally, I think it turned out pretty well. I uploaded it to youtube today. I am having a hassle there in that the quality of photos is better than the upload is allowing. I have to get a file converter to get my better quality video saved to a format they can use. For now, I will put a link below so you can see what I came up with. When I get the better quality video, I will upload that but this is, as it is, pretty typical of online quality so not bad. I, also, have no clue why youtube selected, as the feature photo for the embed, a big puddle of water out of the middle of the video....anyway to change that? Update: did as I was told in comments, change may be coming.

This is my first venture into any sort of video presentation and I think I might do some procedural documents on technical topics using this same format.

Thanks for stopping by,

Steven L. Smith

Good Job, is that your voiceover? Hope you get leads off of YouTube!

Very nice Steven.  I'm not fond of video.  I'd much rather search for and read about a company.  That said, video seems to work with lots of folks.

Yours is easy on the eye and not too long.  Good luck with it.

Ellen, Yep, that is the old radio guy in me. Lenn, I just see it as something else for google to find but I wanted it to be something I was pleased with.

Steve, That was great! Hope it brings in clients.  I wonder if I could do one with Nazareth-Hair of the Dog in the back ground:)

Steven - Impressive first video. I'm still working on doing my "first."  I hope I can do as well as you did!

Steven, great job! I don't have an answer as to why Youtube picked that, I am sure an expert will come along.

Only one disappointment.... someone was missing... someone... furry...

Interesting, as you say, that youtube would select a water puddle for an opening. You have really great audio and vide here. Congratulations on your first success into the video world.

Andrea, Being a star, Nutsy wanted $5000.00 plus royalty fees for a brief appearance.

That was great Steve!  It both looked and sounded very professional.  You can probably sell that to home inspectors all over the country with just a few tweeks here and there.

I was disappointed you didn't end with 10 seconds or so reading all the disclaimers so fast no one could catch the words.  Maybe Billy Jays could do a little voice over at the end...  ;)

Steve, well done. You can change the picture. It is a random image. I do not know why the programmers did that either...

Nice video! To change the thumbnail...go the 'edit' button of your video on YouTube (the place that states your title, description, tag, etc). You will have 3 choices of thumbnails to choose from. Click on the one you want, click on "Save Changes" and it may take a few hours for the change to take effect. YouTube randomly selects a part of your video as a thumbnail...I've had some where the toilet was the selected thumbnail! Keep at it...great idea!

I agree with all the complements above, Nice job! Leaving nutsy out of it was probably a Good idea. He's a little over priced and a bit of a trouble maker. Fame can do that to a guy.

Curtis,

You are a wise man, that is a reason you are on my short list of other inspectors that I refer.

Same, here as far as looking for video. But it is another bell and whistle in a competitive marketplace.

Nice video.  I think the best parts are when you show and explain actual issues of houses.

Nice video, Steven, but you should have had Nutsy in it somewhere. What he charges is not relevant; he's worth it. Personally, I feel that I can read faster than I can watch so I don't have the patience to listen to video presentations. You did a professional job, though, and I watched all the way through.

Steven, Not bad for a first attempt. Videos are better than reading script any day.

I think it's a nice video. I know that video's important, and yet, I still like to read, but I know many do watch a lot of video.

Nice job. I thinking leaving Nutsy out was a brilliant decision.

James,

I think he could have added a lot, but 5k is big bucks for a brief appearance.

Great job on the video Steve, next start to video specfic problems/issues your finding with homes and start to post them on your site. For some reason people love to see a money pit or home improvement project gone bad. However, the biggest bang for your buck with video on your site will be client reviews, there is just something about a real person on video talking about your service that pulls home inspection clients in like a magnet. Feel free to stop by my site www.YourHomeInspector.com and have a look. Let me know if you have any questions. Jim
