Note to Self: Cross My Fingers Hope to Die

When I do an inspection at a large house, that is very spread out, I use every technique I can think of to remind myself of what problem was found at what locations. When you have about seven hose bibbs and a number of GFCI receptacles, some hidden, it can be challenging to at least give some guidance to the client as to where a problem might be found. I really do not like to be too generic.

I use notes and I also use photos and sometimes, in my photos, I use symbols. In this case, call it my own code -- call it a hex -- the crossed fingers mean this hose bibb has problems. Using mnemonics and memory games and all, the good news is that I also remember where it is located.Ā

When a person is trying to remember a lot of things, any crutch will do in a storm.

Thanks for stopping by,

Steven L. Smith

Well, if under the right circumstances you may wish you had died. I was at a high class restaurant that had a cross connection. Oye-Vay! Do we really want to go there? Nah...

GOOD ADVICE FOR AGENTS TOO.

I take many photos during a home inspection to help me when I'm writing a Home Inspection Notice listing repairs needed.

Steve,

Great suggestion. I recently was playing the find the GFCI game. Took a while but I found it. But I will keep your point in mind, very very good.

Thanks Don

Once I could not find a GFI and suspected it was under the panel box but covered up by a recently-finished basement drywall job.  Maybe I could have taken a picture of the wall with my fingers crossed...

We appreciate both photos and notes when asking for repairs. I had one from a Buyer's Agent that used YouTube to show a malfunction...
Happy Father's Day, if nothing else go enjoy the memories...

Happy Dad's day Steven,  whatever memory trick that works is surely the best one to use. Now where did I put those keys?

Good thinking, Steve.  I'll bet your assistant suggested using the symbol this way.
