Window Window On The Wall

One component at new houses that is sometimes "iffy" is the mechanical operation of new vinyl windows. On many occasions, I have found that the windows do not track properly. They stick or do not latch or, somewhere along the way, they bind.

This is usually not a big deal with new windows, appropriate adjustments can be made, but it sure is a good thing to discover this problem in advance so the builder can deal with the "fiddling factor" instead of clients who usually know nothing about windows and window installation.

Thanks for stopping by,

Steven - It's interesting that folks will sometimes pay for upgrade windows and then allow them to be poorly installed, which may sometimes cancel the benefits of the upgrade.

For awhile there I was seeing many of the vinyl wiindows that would not lock. It was always caught on the inspection.

Steve, good point as I see this quite often especially in new construction...

Hi Steven, Good point, window installation is an art and they must be inspected not just installed!

I see it too.  In new construction the window company is supposed to come by and "guarantee" the function of their windows.  With what I find I really doubt that...

Why are you reaching for that toy truck?  Shouldn't you be working?

Jay,

They probably guarantee that they put them in, not that they work.

Steve,

I see this with many vinyl windows also, new and old.
