Whatcom County Home Inspection (King of the House) -- Decayed Siding

I have been around the block enough times, working as a Whatcom County and Bellingham, WA home inspector, to know that siding decays for any number of reasons. Among the most common causes would be because water is being routed across it, such as from gutters with problems, and wood to earth contact. The latter is probably the bigger issue.

People build structures with either too little clearance from wood to soil, or they end up piling soil against the wood. Either way, you end up with something like the photo below. Rot probe in decayed wood!

Thanks for stopping by,

Steven, timely post and in Georgia, that photo would be enhanced with subterranean termites.

I have some siding on my home but it doesn't come anywhere near the ground. Needs to be cleaned often though.

All too common a problem, especially with landscaping/flowerbeds up against the home.
