You are quite right. We listened to Kingston Trio a lot. "he come down from the glory" was a song that surprised people when my brothers and sisters and I went Chrismas Carolling. Not your standard carol. But once the Beatles were in Ed Sullivan, and I remember that night well, everything turned and changed.
Steven, thanks for the walk down memory lane! My dad was in a group in the 50's, loved music so I clearly remember the Kingston Trio, the Lettermen, The Association and other groups that were popular in the early 60's. Growing up 20 minutes north of Boston, I am very familiar with Charlie! I was just in Boston earlier this month and rode the T, Charlie is the icon on the pass.
Hhhmmm, wonder how a person goes from Singing Songs to pedaling pork? Must be more money in playing with his sausage than singing.

My Dad had a record store when I was a kid. We liked just about everything from Big Band Music to Gospel, from Elvis to Sinatra, and from Bobby Rydell to Johnny Mathis back in those days before Beatles and Simon and Garfunkel and Crosby, Stills & Nash took over the house.

Steven, because I was overseas in 63 we got American music about a year later. So in 1964 when PP&M, et al hit town, we all learned to play guitar and would sit around and comunally sing all those songs. It was a nice period, before Vietnam broke wide open, when we were still pretty much innocent. To this day I still sing along to PP&M, they were the best. Well then along came the Mamas and the Papas, I sing along to them too!
So Terry, were you a "Big John" kinda guy.

At my page you will find a number of music blogs, on the side, under pacific northwest music legend. Fact is, some of the blogs in the category are not from the PNW, but I wanted some way to keep track of them. You asked how I know this stuff, I worked in radio for years and I read alot about the music, the business. I am planning to write a number of blogs on interesting stories. In the 1960's, had you told me that I could tell these stories and often fill them in with photos, I would have thought you crazy. But youtube really makes story telling fun. Did you see the one I did today on Simon and Garfunkel.
